Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at synovia@thedysfunctionaldietitian.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A registered dietitian is a food and nutrition expert who has at least a 4-year degree in nutrition science, completed 1,200+ hours of supervised practice, and passed the national board exam.

Some states require licensure (e.g., a licensed dietitian), and each has different requirements; however, all registered dietitians must be licensed to provide services in those states.

The term "nutritionist" is unregulated and can be used by anyone. Registered dietitians and licensed dietitians are nutritionists and can use the term if they choose.

The nutrition expert credentials are RD or RDN; they may also include LD or LDN, depending on the state.

MNT is a treatment approach that uses nutrition education and behavioral counseling to prevent or manage medical conditions.

Yes! As a Registered Dietitian, I am legally qualified to provide MNT.

Some common uses of MNT:

· Diabetes and Prediabetes (blood sugar stabilization)

· Cardiovascular Health (blood pressure and cholesterol)

· Gastrointestinal Disorders (IBS, Celiac disease, IBD)

· Hormonal Imbalances (PCOS, thyroid health)

Definitely not. Research shows that restrictive diets are rarely sustainable and often backfire. My approach is rooted in sustainability and flexibility.
